Choosing to have an abortion is a difficult decision to make. You may experience a range of different emotions such as relief, a sense of loss and sadness after an abortion.
Some women who have had an abortion say that they feel alone afterwards and some women have no-one to talk to about how they are feeling.
Counsellors are experienced in supporting women who have had an abortion. They see women who have had an abortion recently and women who had an abortion many years ago.
After an abortion, you may cope with the situation in different ways. You may be supported by your friends, partner or family or may feel unable to talk to anyone.
Post-abortion counselling and support is available free of charge if you decide at any time you would like to talk to someone. These services are funded by the HSE Sexual Health and Crisis Pregnancy Programme.
Information on services that provide free post-abortion counselling services is available here.
