If you decide to parent (keep) your child, whether alone or with a partner or family, you may need ongoing support.

Some of the supports you may need include:

  • medical services for your baby and for yourself
  • practical help with finance and accommodation
  • emotional support

During a crisis pregnancy counselling session, the counsellor will help you to explore how you feel about the possibility of becoming a parent. They will also discuss the practicalities involved if you feel that is what you want to do.

What about medical costs?

Medical care during your pregnancy (ante-natal care) is free from State maternity hospitals. GP care may also be free while you are pregnant, but you need to ask your doctor about that.

Your stay in the hospital after the birth is also free.
